With things gearing up for the launch of The Go-Getter Girl’s Guide this September, the Go-Getter Girls blog is back in action! First up, now that spring has sprung, so many of us are thinking about toning up for tank top season– and we’ve got some great tips on how to motivate from fitness guru Liberty Harper-Simonsen. Liberty began her fitness career as a kickboxing instructor and certified personal trainer before launching her own ladies-only gym, Liberty Fitness, at age 21, and becoming the youngest franchiser in the country when the gym expanded throughout the country. After selling Liberty Fitness and consulting for several years, she recently took on her latest professional challenge as VP of Franchise Operations for iTan. Below, Liberty shares her top 3 tips for creating your personal spring fitness action plan– and sticking with it!

1. Moderation
Whether you are following a different way of eating than you are used to, or you are starting an exercise program, the key to both is moderation. Remember that too much of anything is not good. Also keep in mind that it does no good to beat yourself up if you miss a workout or eat more than expected out to dinner with your friend. Just get back on track the next day and your self-acceptance will be a wonderful confidence booster!

2. Mind-body connection
Thoughts become what you exude, who you are personally and professionally. Think you can’t? You won’t. Think you can? You will! Do not be afraid to try new things and think POSITIVE THOUGHTS about yourself before and after a workout. Same goes for what you eat. Accept that there will be hurdles to overcome, enjoy when you do indulge, and appreciate your body when you strive to choose something healthier instead of the most convenient food within reach. Take time to pat yourself for what you have accomplished over what you “messed up” and the more positive you become, the faster results will follow.

3. Make an appointment with yourself
The most common reason why people do not exercise or complete their diet goals is time. The simplest way to ensure you workout and review your goals as well as go to the grocery store over the fast food restaurant…make an appointment with yourself! Block out time on your calendar for each and every day and you will find success finding a way to make being healthy a priority not just generally in your life, but in each and every day.

Thanks, Liberty!
